The YWCA and Mainstreet Piqua’s Community Farmers Market are teaming together to present a workshop on Container Gardening on Tuesday, May 17, at 7 p.m. at the YWCA located at 418 N. Wayne Street. The class is open to the public and YWCA membership is not required. Cost for the class is $10 per person.
Pam Weldy, Farmer’s Market vendor, will demonstrate how to grow tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetable plants in containers. “This class is perfect for those with limited space or no garden,” said Lorna Swisher, Mainstreet Piqua Executive Director. “Pam and other vendors held workshops at the YWCA last year and found them to be very successful so were excited to try other gardening/canning classes this year,” she continued.
This workshop will provide lots of opportunities to learn what and how to plant things in a container as well as ask questions according to Swisher. Those wishing to sign up for the class may stop at the YWCA Piqua (418 N. Wayne Street) or call 773-6626. Payment is due one week in advance of the class to reserve placement. Space is limited. The YWCA is handicap accessible.
The Piqua Community Farmers Market will get underway on May 26 and will be held each Thursday from 3:30-6:30 pm in downtown Piqua. For more information about the classes, call the YWCA at 773-6626 or Mainstreet Piqua at 773-9355.
