On Thursday, August 31 at 5:30 p.m. the Piqua Community Farmers Market will be hosting its ninth annual tomato salsa contest. Salsas will be judged in either the hot, mild or most unusual category.
The salsa should be made of ingredients that can be purchased from the Market (except things like limes, orange juice, mangos etc.) The salsa must be homemade and cannot be so hot that it makes people cry!
Pre-registration is not required so those interested in participating are asked to bring their entry to the market by 5:30 p.m. on August 31. Make sure you indicate which category or categories you plan to enter. Participants are asked to bring at least one pint of salsa (approximately 2 cups) to be sure there is enough for judging and some to share. Following the judging, taste tests will be available for Piqua Community Farmers Market customers and vendors.
The Piqua Community Farmers Market is held each Thursday through September 14 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. on High Street in front of the Fort Piqua Plaza. The market features a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, plants, and handcrafted items.
The Piqua Community Farmers Market is organized by Mainstreet Piqua for more information call 773-9355.
