Piqua’s rich industrial heritage continues to be honored by Mainstreet Piqua as the tenth “Made in Piqua” ornament is now available. The new ornament honors The Orr Felt Company and features the front of the Orr Felt building on South Main Street. The ornament is brass with green logo highlights. The cost per ornament is $12.

The Orr Felt Company (also known as the Orr Felt & Blanket Company) was in business in Piqua from the early 1900’s until 2016. The company produced papermaker wet felts and blankets. During World War I the company made olive drab blankets for the army and in World War II it was blue blankets for the Navy.

The idea for the collectible ornament came from former downtown Piqua merchant Doug Stilwell. A new ornament, featuring a different item made in Piqua, is produced each year and it is the goal of Mainstreet Piqua to feature items made by both historical business as well as those still present in the community. Companies that have been featured on the Made in Piqua ornament series include Decker’s, Hartzell Propeller, Favorite Stove Company, The French Oil Mill Machinery Company, Meteor Motor Car Company, Piqua Paper Box Company, Atlas Underwear Company, Jackson Tube Service, Aerovent Company & Hartzell Fan. All the ornaments come in a box specifically made for the Mainstreet Piqua Made in Piqua ornaments by the Piqua Paper Box Company. The box is red and has a magnetic closure.

The ornaments are available at the Mainstreet Piqua office, 326 N. Main Street as well as Readmore Hallmark, 430 N. Main Street, Apple Tree Gallery, 405 N. Main Street and Tapestry Angel, 516 Spring Street. The ornaments will also be available on online through the Piqua Collectibles store on the Mainstreet Piqua website at www.mainstreetpiqua.com
