The committee that puts together Mainstreet Piqua’s annual Taste of the Arts has been meeting since January and are looking forward to presenting another excellent event for the Piqua community. The date for this year’s event has been set for Friday, May 11. Taste of the Arts 2018 will be the 24th Annual celebration of the art, food and music in downtown Piqua.
The headline entertainment at this year’s Taste of the Arts is “Red Hot Rhythm Review.” This nine-piece Columbus-based band performed briefly at Taste of the Arts last year but had to cut their performance short because of rain. Red Hot Rhythm Review has a huge local following and is well known for their energetic arrangements of popular R&B, Funk and Classic tunes. The group will be doing two performances from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
The committee is also lining up the demonstrating artists that will be located in several Main Street businesses during the course of the event. Taste of the Arts encompasses the 300 & 400 blocks of N. Main Street. Artists committed so far include woodcarvers Jim Foster and Don Worley, watercolor artist Rusty Hardin and pottery artist Pat Klopfenstein. More artists will be added in the coming weeks. The Piqua Public Library will be hosting the Ohio Watercolor Society traveling exhibit during the Taste of the Arts and visitors to the event can visit the exhibit in the Library.
Food is a huge part of the Taste of the Arts celebration and the committee is lining up fourteen different area restaurants and caterers to be part of the event.
The job of putting together an event like this one is huge and committee members include Gary Anderson, Leesa Baker, Marilyn Halteman, Cindy Lillicrap, Sandy Kraack, Gretchen Roeth, Anita Dunn, Peggy Wiggins, Duane Bachman, Melinda Sillman, Bev Collett and Jessica Stein. The Taste of the Arts had been chaired from its inception by Cheryl Stiefel-Francis but with Cheryl’s passing at the beginning of the year the chair role is now being filled by Mainstreet Piqua’s executive director Lorna Swisher. New volunteers are always welcome and anyone interested in helping with Taste of the Arts is asked to contact Mainstreet Piqua at 773-9355. Mark your calendar-Friday, May 11 from 5 to 9 P.M. in downtown Piqua.
