Apple Tree Gallery to host gathering of Christmas Collectors

Apple Tree Gallery, downtown Piqua’s 365 Christmas and Halloween store will be hosting a really fun and unique educational Christmas and shopping event on Saturday, April 9 and the event is open to the public. This special day-long event allows visitors to browse and purchase rare and distinctive Christmas and Halloween items, as well as attend lectures given by expert collectors who are members of the “Ohio Friends of Christmas” organization.  Apple Tree Gallery is located at 405 N. Main Street in downtown Piqua.

On Friday, April 8 Englewood, Ohio ornament designer Elaine Roesle will be hosting a Santa Tree Topper workshop from 6 – 8 p.m.  The workshop is limited to the first 15 registrants and the cost is $30 per person. Elaine Roesle’s ornaments and figurines have been available at Apple Tree Gallery in downtown Piqua for many years and she has been a frequent visitor to the store.  The Santa tree topper workshop fee covers all the supplies needed to make the topper as well as the expert guidance of Elaine Roesle.

From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 there will be vendors from across the Midwest selling Christmas and Halloween items from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s as well as early 1900’s Santa’s, postcards and older Radko ornaments.  Other items available include Dept. 56 houses, artist-made spun cotton ornaments, paper houses and other vintage collectibles.  This is the fourth year Apple Tree Gallery has hosted the event, which last year featured vendors from throughout Ohio as well as from Michigan.

In addition to the shopping opportunities there are three informational presentations scheduled throughout the day.  At 10:00 a.m. Jim Thomas will speak on “Santa postcards and buttons.” At 11 a.m. the topic of “Early Figural Christmas Lights” will be covered by Bob Kubicki.  Following lunch Polly Bemis Albrecht will do a presentation on “Decorating the White House for Christmas.”

This event is a unique opportunity for Christmas collectors and fans to mingle and shop for unique Christmas items and learn from real experts and long-time collectors of vintage Christmas items.  The cost to attend all the educational sessions plus the marketplace is $5 per person, payable at the door.  For a schedule of events and more information about the event call Apple Tree Gallery at 773-1801.
