The YWCA and Mainstreet Piqua’s Community Farmers Market are teaming together to present a workshop on Jams and Jellies on Tuesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the YWCA located at 418 N. Wayne Street. The class is open to the public and YWCA membership is not required. Cost for the class is $10 per person.
Cheryl Burns, Farmer’s Market vendor, will demonstrate how to make jams and jellies using the hot water bath technique,” said Lorna Swisher, Mainstreet Piqua Executive Director. “Class participants will learn how to make strawberry jam as well as other fruits to make jams and other fruit preserves. Cheryl and other vendors held workshops at the YWCA last year and found them to be very successful so were excited to try other gardening/canning classes this year,” she continued.
This workshop will provide lots of opportunities to learn how to use the hot water bath techniqueas well as ask questions according to Swisher. Those wishing to sign up for the class may stop at the YWCA Piqua (418 N. Wayne Street) or call 773-6626. Payment is due one week in advance of the class to reserve placement. Space is limited. The YWCA is handicap accessible.
