Mainstreet Piqua, the non-profit organization that focuses on the development and promotion of downtown Piqua, has once again achieved State and National Accreditation as a certified National Main Street Community. Annually, Main Street Programs across the country are reviewed against ten criteria to receive accreditation, and Mainstreet Piqua successfully met the qualifications for each of the ten. This is the 16th year in a row that Mainstreet Piqua, Inc. has met the qualification to be accredited.
“Full credit for the success of our program should be given to the Piqua community.” Says Mainstreet Piqua Executive Director Lorna Swisher. “The downtown businesses, area corporations, and the general public are all very supportive of the Mainstreet Piqua program.” Says Swisher. “We are also very fortunate to have an excellent and committed group of volunteers,” says Swisher.
The criteria to be accredited include Broad based community support, comprehensive work plans, active board and committees, program of ongoing training and paid professional stuff among other and other items. “This is not an award.” says Swisher “It is recognition that this organization is working hard every day to improve the downtown area and, we believe, improve the quality of life for our entire community.”
