Are you looking for ways to volunteer for your community? Meet new friends, while making a positive difference in Piqua.
If you have attended our events, you know they are fun and a vital part of our community. Volunteers are essential to the success of these events and are needed for committees, day-of events, and “on call” for the occasional office project. Whether you have a few hours to give each week, once a month or per event, we need you. At present, the Hot Jobs list includes:
Taste of the Arts Committee Members
Taste of the Arts is the spring kickoff event. Including art, food and drink, children’s activities, and first-class entertainment, Taste is the perfect combination to draw people back together after a cold Ohio winter – it is one of our biggest fundraisers, and a chance to support local restaurants. Scheduled in early May, this fun committee meets monthly beginning in January, and works hard to make sure everyone has a good time. Key requirements are an enthusiasm for throwing a great party, and a willingness to coordinate the day-of-event activities to make sure it runs smoothly.
Farmers Market Assistant(s)
Each Thursday afternoon during the summer, the Piqua Community Farmers Market needs assistance with set-up/take down, and helping out in the MainStreet information booth. If you like being outdoors, talking to farmers and customers, this is the job for you! Pick the weeks that you prefer and be a part of this highly popular event in front of the library. Not terribly physically taxing, but be prepared for the weather.
Third Thursday Committee Members
Three times each summer, we extend the Thursday Farmers Market into a family street festival. Generally, this event includes: food trucks, entertainment, games and kid’s activities, and the opportunity for non-profits to promote their programs. Third Thursdays will be held June 15, July 20, and August 17 in 2023. We would love an infusion of fresh ideas and willing helpers!
Sponsor Development Coordinators (2 volunteers)
Are you an outgoing people person? Would you consider yourself a bold problem solver? (Or are these skills you want to work on and grow?)
Event sponsorship is a necessary element of operating downtown events. Every event includes several levels of sponsorship – there are countless opportunities for local businesses to partner with us to support MainStreet Piqua and to build our community. Sponsor Development volunteers will have access information about who has sponsored past events and will introduce the event to both new and long-standing local area businesses. MainStreet Piqua will provide support and guidance to these volunteers, but new and creative approaches to developing these important community connections are welcomed.
Volunteer Recruiter
Do you have a solid network of friends? We need one or two people to recruit volunteers for our events and committees. Are you ready to share your passion for community in Piqua – and the fun you will have volunteering at downtown events – with your friends and family (in fact anyone who will listen!). A willingness to share and a convincing smile are all the skills you need.
General Event Volunteers
Our calendar events each year are only possible thanks to the help of our volunteers. If you would like to be called for all (or pick your favorites), we will add your name to the volunteer list. You can set up and tear down, or choose something a bit less physical. You can meet and greet the world, or choose a more back-office task. We have opportunities for every personality type and skillset. (Also, as a non-profit, your volunteer hours will count toward local school volunteerism requirements.)
Site Set-up and Take Down
We need muscle! It’s not hard work, just physical. Get your exercise by setting up/taking down tables, chairs, barricades, loading/unloading supplies at a few of our events. Generally, it doesn’t involve a large time commitment – many hands make light work. Boy Scouts, athletic teams, students needing community hours – we need you!
