The streets of downtown Piqua will be filled with vibrant energy and creativity as Taste of the Arts returns for another year. The festival is set to take place on Friday, May 12 from 5 – 9 p.m. and promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
The festival will feature an exciting line-up of demonstrating artists showcasing their talent in various forms. This year the committee will be highlighting the ‘art’ of several downtown businesses, including cake decorating at Dobo’s Delights, jewelry making at Thoma & Sons Jewelers, flower decorating, and screen printing. There will also be a demonstration of acrylic paint pouring, pottery making, and designer marker and sharpie art. The event will also feature a sidewalk chalk artist. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch and interact with the artists as they create their masterpieces right before their eyes.
In addition to the art demonstrations, Taste of the Arts will also offer a wide range of activities for children. Kids can unleash their own creativity at the interactive art stations, participate in face painting, and enjoy other fun-filled activities. The Main Street Kids Zone will feature seven kid-focused organizations providing free activities for everyone. Organizations participating include Council on Rural services (head Start), Young Life, Parents as Teachers, Piqua Public Library, Miami County YMCA, Piqua Catholic Preschool and Piqua/Covington/Sugar Grove Girl Scouts. Thanks to a grant from Awesome Piqua, a highlight of Kids Zone this year will be a visit by Ariel and Superman, as well as a special kid-appropriate Jedi training exercise provided by The Fairy Godmother.
But that’s not all – live music will fill the streets throughout the festival, adding to the lively atmosphere. Cincinnati-based band HiFi Honey will be the featured artist this year. HiFi Honey is a high-energy band that plays familiar music from many genres. Festival-goers can also enjoy a selection of craft beer and food from eight different local vendors. Food items range in price from $1 to $5.
“We are thrilled to bring back Taste of the Arts Festival this year,” said Mainstreet Piqua executive Director, Lorna Swisher. “It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the arts while enjoying a fun-filled event with family and friends.”
The festival will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 12 in downtown Piqua and is free to attend.
