The Piqua Community Farmers Market will be hosting a representative from the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program on Thursday, July 13 to sign up seniors for this FREE program. Every person attending the market, and signing up with the program, will receive $50 in coupons that can be used for fruits, vegetables and honey at the market. The 2023 Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program runs through October 31.
In partnership with the Ohio Department of Aging and the Area Agency on Aging, Homefull administers the program at farmers’ markets and farm stands for the Agency’s nine-county service area: Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Shelby. Eligible seniors are age 60 and older, and meet specific income guidelines.
The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Department of Aging to allow income-eligible seniors the opportunity to enjoy locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey. Program coupons may be exchanged for eligible foods from authorized farmers.
For information about the sign-ups, call the Mainstreet Piqua office at 937-773-9355.
